General Function

The Director, Industry Relations will oversee and guide the Industry Relations Team in the development of professional account management skills, positive relationships, while driving strategic growth with pharmaceutical manufacturers. This role inspires leadership with a hands-on approach to executing the business growth strategy of the entire company. This position directs, plans, coordinates, and manages the company toward its primary revenue goals and objectives through sales strategies and development of biopharmaceutical relationships.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to drive strategic growth with key stakeholders within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with biopharmaceutical organizations securing access to current and future marketed products, patient assistance, and other industry-sponsored programs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Amber Pharmacy and Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions (HPS) conference calendar participation.
  • Align all staff to the same mission, and drive people to a common goal. Assist the National Account Managers in finding challenges and rewards for the greater good.
  • Closely monitor the biopharmaceutical pipeline to ensure access to each agent, whether in a limited distribution or open network.
  • Represent The Company at Industry Relation functions, conventions, and educational programs. Schedule and coordinate Industry Relation meeting opportunities maximizing appointment interface with industry decision-makers.
  • Interface with key departments and programs within Amber to effectively communicate the needs of the organization relating to access to current and future marketed biopharmaceuticals.
  • Support the Amber/HPS leadership team on the development and implementation of business strategy, tactical planning, problem resolution, which may span Industry Relation, payers, hospitals, GPOs, and other channels or segments.
  • Constantly evolving and developing. Responsibility to recognize the need for redefinition and adaptability to anticipate and exceed shifts in the market.
  • Delivers difficult messages with integrity while moving teams and others through the workforce's environmental challenges. Leads -does not procrastinate or redistribute blame -looks for outcomes and details with root causes but does not languish in the details.
  • Support Marketing to develop and implement Industry Relation marketing programs, including the development of sell sheets and other promotional pieces.
  • Work with the Marketing Department to leverage marketing programs that manufacturers utilize to reach patients, hospitals, pharmacies, and health care professionals.
  • Work with Sales & Marketing to impact the Company sales organization on current and future initiatives conducted by manufacturers.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Regulatory departments and understand compliance / operational guidelines.
  • Work closely with pricing, contracting, and compliance to ensure all contracts and fee-for-service agreements are compliant with government regulations.
  • Actively participates in the organization's Quality Management Program and organization-wide performance improvement projects and efforts to improve quality of care/service and client/patient safety.
  • Works with the executives to establish short and long-range goals and related plans and policies.
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization.
  • Prepares and distributes information for management and stays current on any industry changes, clinical developments, therapeutic categories, and new drugs.
  • Track and report on project milestones and provide status reports to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and strategize with the National Account Managers to determine and delegate pharma project objectives, priorities, and scope.
  • Create and coordinate strategic meetings with Pharma clients at Amber headquarters, industry meetings, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and specialty pharmacy summits/meetings.
  • Leverages knowledge of Industry Relations, Sales, and Marketing to drive growth and cross-function expertise, ensuring Industry Relations, sales, and marketing communicate well, share information, and collaborate.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the pharma community.
  • Current and prior relationships with trade partners book of business is a plus.
  • Ability to travel (30%+).
  • Thorough understanding of management and financial practices in all areas and phases.
  • Inspirational leadership style and hands-on approach.
  • Proven experience developing and executing business strategies.

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive professional experience in executive leadership roles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position –up to 90% of the time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., and traverse conferences, meetings, and remote events
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)

Equipment Used to Perform the Job:

  • Computers, keyboards, mouse, monitors, fax, and/or headsets for phone work. Software specific to the position, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook and Skype. Must lift and traverse the area to move paper and supplies to use the equipment.


  • Frequently interact with co-workers, intradepartmental staff of the Company, managers, leaders, Vendors, and customers. High interactions with physicians and the medical community to support the sales and perfection of the referral to fill.
