Department Summary


The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (IRLE) is a multidisciplinary research center dedicated to advancing labor research and education for workplace justice. Through the work of its units - UCLA Labor Center, Human Resources Roundtable, and the Labor Occupational Safety and Health program - the Institute forms wide-ranging research agendas that carry UCLA into the Los Angeles community and beyond.

Position Summary



The UCLA Labor Center is recruiting for a Project and Policy Analyst position to support a research project involving Child Labor. The research would include reviewing pending state legislation, reviewing existing research on child labor in the United States, examining key industries that are most engaged in child labor, and policy initiatives that have been effective at curbing child labor abuse. The position would include preparing presentations, and engaging with labor and community partners. The research may also extend to other topics that would assist the UCLA Labor Center in exploring funding opportunities in the area of labor, human rights, and educational exchanges among faculty and students from different universities.



Salary & Compensation

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications



  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. (Required)
  • Proven ability to produce clear, concise, and compelling analysis (Required)
  • Ability to research and document findings. (Required)
  • Knowledge of the labor movement, and labor organizations. (Required)
  • Ability to bridge relationships between the university and labor and community organizations. (Required)
  • Ability to translate academic research into practitioner-based language. (Preferred)
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. (Preferred)


Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations



  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
  • Master's Degree Masters Degree in field related to policy, labor, or social science. (Preferred)
