Yonkers Public Schools is the fourth largest school district in New York State, located in the lower Hudson Valley, immediately north of New York City. Barack Obama School for Social Justice offers P-Tech programs in: Computer Information Systems and Environmental Studies. This program is an innovative educational pathway that integrates two critical fields: Environmental Studies and Computer Information Systems. This program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of environmental issues and the technical skills necessary to address them using technology. Through a combination of interdisciplinary coursework, industry partnerships, and hands-on-experiences, students develop a versatile skill set that prepares them for a wide range of career opportunities. By fostering a deep understanding of both environmental challenges and technological solutions, the program equips student to make meaningful contributions to sustainability efforts in the modern world.

School Principal


D
uties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Experience working with parent community in order to support students’ academic growth.
  • Experience building trust and fostering an environment where all stakeholders feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute to the school’s success.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop, articulate, and implement a shared vision and mission for diverse learning.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and affirming environment for students, staff, and families by working to disrupt and dismantle systems of oppression and embracing equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Plan, support, and/or facilitate professional learning opportunities that support teaching and learning to meet the goals of the District’s Professional Development Plan which are aligned to the Superintendent’s Goal
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop implement, and evaluate curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure it is culturally, linguistically relevant, and promotes higher levels of thinking.
  • Collect, analyze, and use data to monitor and evaluate the diverse instructional program and practices, and make the necessary refinements to support continuous improvement.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and revise management and operational systems to promote the school’s continuous and sustainable improvement.
  • Engage in evidence-based practices to ensure continuous school improvement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to facilitate increased student achievement outcomes for all students.
  • Obtain, allocate, align, and efficiently utilize human, fiscal and technological resources to improve teaching, leading, and learning.
  • Maintain high expectations for every student leading with educational equity at the forefront of every decision.
  • Maintain high standards of student and adult conduct and incorporate progressive discipline with restorative practices at the center of leadership practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of NYSED accountability requirements.
  • Strengthen communication and relationships with families, the community, and students.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Superintendent of Schools or Superintendents designee.

Q ualifications:

  • New York State Administrative Certification SDA/SAS/SBL
  • Knowledge of educational laws, regulations, and compliance standards to ensure the new school operates and meets legal requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – the ability to form and develop professional relationships, work with diverse groups to generate ideas, and develop consensus from stakeholder
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skil
  • Prior school-leadership experience in an urban PK-8 or HS setting with demonstrated success in effective leadership and strategic implementation of accelerated academic growt
  • Working knowledge of public-school systems, structures and schoo
  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to perform independent, thoughtful analysis around important educational issu
  • Knowledge of collaborative-inquiry theory and proces
  • Ability to manage and prioritize many projects at on
  • Experience working on a collaborative team and understanding of cross- functional ro
  • Experience in overseeing new building facility, ensuring operation efficiency, and demonstrating strong decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, evenings and weekend
