Job Description

Summary

A Tucson Unified Principal Mentor serves as a mentor and coach to Principals and other administrators to help improve student academic achievement. The principal Mentor is responsible for the individual support to identified principals. This position coordinates and facilitates interventions and professional learning experiences to guide the growth and development of selected principals, serving one or more school locations. The principal Mentor will work closely with the Regional Assistant Superintendent and Professional Development Team to ensure that support for identified TUSD Principals is aligned and consistent.

The Principal Mentor provides guidance, assistance, and professional growth opportunities to school administrators, including training and mentoring in the use of Professional Standards for Educational Leaders. The Principal Mentors build fundamental functional leadership in all school site leadership areas (Instructional, Students Support Services, Operations and Campus Management, Professional Development, and Customer Service). The Mentor shares best practices to improve student social and emotional learning and achievement while maintaining a safe, caring, and orderly learning environment.

  • This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, and is for one School Year only.**


Minimum Requirements

Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Card

School Principal Certification as defined by the Arizona Department of Education.

A minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience as a Principal with Tucson Unified School District.

Preferred Requirements

Education Specialist, or Doctorate

Experience mentoring, training, and enhancing leadership development.

Sound knowledge of Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.

Knowledge of evidence-based school structures including Multi-Tier Support Systems, Professional Learning Communities, PBIS, data-driven instruction, observation and feedback, intentional planning, shared leadership, effective communication strategies, and Social Emotional Learning.

Demonstrated Professional Skills

Experience in the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Expertise in training in the areas of motivation, struggling students, cooperative learning, technology, School Software programs, AZMerit data

Expertise in what the school-wide academic standards and state assessments require of students' knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery; demonstrated ability to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategies.

Command of instructional design and the benefits and tradeoffs of school design decisions in driving student achievement.

Understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies (e.g. pacing, checks for understanding, students doing the heavy lifting, etc.) based on comprehension of child development and pedagogy.

Investment in and understanding of the appropriate application of social-emotional strategies to promote the development of the whole child.

Ability to develop, facilitate and ensure positive outcomes for teacher teams and professional learning communities.

Ability to set direction across an entire school and invest and motivate others to action. to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Ability to use a variety of strategies to invest and influence team and community members.

LOCATION: Various - Multiple Positions Available

FTE: 0.5 - 20 hours per week
