Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) Overview: Therapy Contracting Services, Inc. is a staffing health care company that provides therapist for home health agencies. Job Summary: A Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide rehabilitative services to patients with physical, developmental, social, or emotional impairments. The goal is to help patients improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments.
Key Responsibilities: - Patient Care :
- Assist in the evaluation of patients by gathering information about their physical, mental, and emotional status.
- Help implement treatment plans designed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Therapeutic Interventions :
- Conduct therapeutic activities and exercises as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Instruct patients in the use of adaptive equipment and techniques to promote independence in daily tasks.
- Monitor and record patient progress during therapy sessions.
- Supportive Activities :
- Assist patients with exercises and activities to develop, recover, and maintain their physical and cognitive skills.
- Provide encouragement and support to patients throughout their therapy sessions.
- Patient and Family Education :
- Educate patients and their families on the goals and methods of the therapy program.
- Provide guidance on home exercises and activities that can support the therapeutic process.
- Documentation :
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and reports.
- Report patient progress and any changes in condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Collaboration :
- Work closely with the Occupational Therapist and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
- Equipment and Environment :
- Ensure that therapy equipment is clean, safe, and properly maintained.
- Prepare and organize the therapy environment to support safe and effective treatment sessions.
Qualifications: - Education : Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Certification : Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Driver’s licenses and CPR Certification.
- Licensure : Valid state license to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Experience : Clinical experience through internships or previous employment preferred.
- Skills :
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Empathy and patience.
- Ability to follow treatment plans and instructions from the Occupational Therapist.
- Physical stamina to assist patients and perform therapy activities.
Work Environment: - Settings : Home Health Care
- Hours : Typically, full-time, with some evening or weekend hours depending on patient needs.
